Innovations at Race Around Austria 2018

09/01/2017

The success story goes back to 2009 when the Race Around Austria was held for the first time. For the upcoming edition, this means that it is time to celebrate as the event is organized for the tenth time in succession. From 13th to 19th of August the ultracyclists will again ride around Austria’s borders.

„Especially this year we have collected a lot of feedback and decided to provide the athletes and teams with some innovations “, explains race director Michael Nussbaumer. About 200 cyclists take part in the race every year. As of 2018 the number of support cars will be limited. The two-person as well as the four-person teams on the extreme distance are not allowed to have more than three support vehicles (including the pace car).

„Two of our main qualities are the adventure and the sportive character. Also in 2018 the emphasize lays on these factors. A comparable and fair race should be guaranteed for the team competitions. Particularly teams with lower financial resources or with longer journeys to the race start should not suffer from these disadvantages anymore”, tells Johann Huemer, head-referee of Race Around Austria.

Simplifications will be also made for the Race Around Austria CHALLENGE presented by Fever-Tree. It is not compulsory anymore to pick up the starting documents and to pass the technical inspection already one day before the start, but these preparations can also be done on the race day of the CHALLENGE. Furthermore, the race start of the team CHALLENGE will take place a little bit later compared to the last years in order to ensure an unforgettable atmosphere at the finish line.

Additionally, the Fever-Tree BUSINESS CHALLENGE will be expanded. As of 2018 also business partners and business customers can tackle this adventure together on the bike.
